What is DoorDash?

DoorDash is a technology that connects local businesses to their customers through the DoorDash app. Remember the time when you need to call a pizza place when you need to have some pizza delivered? Well, save yourself the calling because you can just log into the DoorDash app and place your order there. But apart from pizza, DoorDash will deliver all kinds of food coming from their partner restaurants and food establishments. In a nutshell, that’s DoorDash for the customer.

As of writing this Door Dash review, it’s important to stress that DoorDash is ever-growing. It is now available in over 4,000 cities across all 50 states in the US! This means that more and more people are using DoorDash to order food, therefore, requiring DoorDash to employ more drivers to fulfill these orders.

DoorDash drivers, a.k.a dashers, make money by picking up orders and delivering them to the customer’s address. What makes “dashing” an appealing option for a part-time job is that you can set your own schedule (work whenever you like), you get guaranteed pay and you get to keep all of the tips.

Once you’re ready to work at DoorDash, you must log in to the app and click “Dash Now.” This means you’re ready to pick up orders in your area right away. On the other hand, you may opt to set your schedule and the app will alert you with orders during those working hours.

The app will notify you if there’s an order you can take. You can see right away the time you must deliver the order, the distance from the pick-up point, and the guaranteed pay. Press “accept” if you’d like to make the delivery.

You will drive towards the pick-up point and gather the orders. The app will then show you the delivery address. Follow each prompt in the app for each of these steps.

Finally, use the app to confirm that the delivery has been made. You can now start taking another order. The app will record all the money you make, which is easily visible on the “Earnings” tab.

DoorDash Job Review: How Much Does DoorDash Pay?

As with any DoorDash job review, addressing wages is an important matter. According to the advertised rate on the DoorDash website, dashers earn an average of $15-$25 an hour. Meanwhile, DoorDash employee reviews on Indeed say they make around $15/hour.

But that still varies, and you could earn more, depending on the size of the city you’re dashing in, the size of the orders, and the number of orders you can finish in an hour.

I’ve also seen DoorDash delivery reviews on YouTube of real-life dashers making around $700-$1900 per week. Newbie dashers typically start with $10/hour, which increases as they get the hang of working at DoorDash.

What are the other things that could impact your DoorDash pay?

First, there’s the guaranteed pay. DoorDash promises a $10/hr minimum if you didn’t make enough deliveries during your shift. So, if you’re working on a slow day, you know you’ll make at least $10/hour.

Also, there are tips. Fortunately, dashers get to keep 100% of their tips. Customers can tip via the app or in cash. To get more tips, provide the best customer service experience. Update your customers regularly, take extra napkins and cutleries if available, and be courteous and polite.

How To Make More Money On DoorDash: Hacks For Dashers

Let’s go beyond the basics of earning money and discuss more money-making tips in this working for DoorDash review. Here are some of the best hacks you can use to amp up your earning potential while dashing:

  1. Choose the orders you accept wisely. Larger orders pay more, so try to pick them when you can. Customers are bound to give higher tips for costlier orders. Also, you could get easier orders such as donuts, as they’re readily available and you won’t have to wait much for them.
  1. Check every order. Sometimes the restaurant staff makes mistakes. And your customer won’t be too happy if you deliver the wrong order. It only takes a few moments to check if you’ve got the right salad or coffee. This small effort can go a long way in making customers happy, and of course, increase your odds of getting more tips.
  1. Keep ratings up. Your customers can see your profile and rating when they place an order and it’s in your best interest to keep your ratings high to keep both DoorDash and your customers happy. You can do so by communicating with your customer (for instance, if there are delays or some orders are out of stock); following customer instructions, and being overall polite and friendly to the restaurant staff and customers.

Pros and Cons of DoorDash

I know not all people are ready to jump into this kind of opportunity, so I included in this Door Dash delivery review the pros and cons of working at DoorDash to help you weigh your options.

  1. You work on your own schedule. There’s no need to time in and out. Just log into the DoorDash app when you’re ready to hustle.
  2. You get all the tips. DoorDash won’t make a cut from your tips.
  3. You can make more money delivering food during peak times.
  4. You can work for DoorDash, as well as other gig economy jobs to maximize your income.

  1. Inconsistent income. DoorDash can’t guarantee that you’ll always have a busy shift and some days could be slow.
